Butakovskiy Waterfall is one of the most accessible and beautiful waterfalls near Almaty, reachable within a couple of hours from the city center. A well-defined trail leads through spruce forest, making this an easy day trip suitable for almost anyone.
In winter, the waterfall freezes and becomes especially spectacular, turning the route into one of the most atmospheric short hikes near Almaty.

8:00 — Meet your guide at your accommodation.
9:00 — Arrive at Butakovskiy Gorge. The drive from the city center takes about one hour. On arrival, you can stop at the visitor center for coffee, use the restroom and prepare for the trek.
9:30–11:00 — Trek to Butakovskiy Waterfall.
11:00–12:00 — Free time at the waterfall. You can take photos, explore the area and have a picnic. If you would like to spend more time there, that’s possible.
12:00 — Start the return trip. Walk back to the parking area, then drive back to your accommodation in Almaty.
